8️⃣ Days to Go!
The Olympic Games history is full of inspiring athletes who influenced, changed, or pioneered in their time and beyond. Alongside them, many other professionals who left a remarkable legacy were working behind the scenes.
Regarding technology, several companies and tech experts were responsible for making the Olympics go from an event that could only be witnessed in person, at the venue, to a global phenomenon that can be streamed to multiple devices worldwide.
An example in this long history is Edmond Dehorter. Precisely 100 years ago, during the Paris 1924 Olympic Games, he became a pioneer of sports commentary. This edition of the Games got the most media coverage until then, which at the time meant written press.
Dehorter worked for Radio Paris, which was invented one year before. He insisted on innovating by broadcasting competitions on the radio in Stade de Colombes (currently known as Yves-de-Manoir), even after organisers banned him so that they could privilege the written press.
Instead of giving up, Dehorter even flew above the Velódrome d’Hiver and Stade de Colombes in a hot-air balloon basket to comment on key events live, though the strong winds stopped him from finishing some of his commentary. He has since then been considered a pioneer of sports commentary.
At Legacy, we are fully TEC, so we are always amazed to learn the stories of those who paved the way for what we do. If you are tech, let us know: who are your heroes?
