Paris Download Event – Lausanne, Olympic Capital
On the 14th of November, in Lausanne, Olympic capital, over 40 professionals from Sport, TEC, and related industries gathered to explore the experiences and insights about the delivery of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Hosted by Legacy Groupe, the “Paris Download Event” launched the results of the “TEC 24 Sport Events survey” and encouraged the audience to discuss the results during the “Download Discussions” – a collaborative conversation methodology.
The diverse room was composed of professionals from International Sport Federations such as Baseball, Cycling, Basketball, Canoe, Rowing and Hockey; Paris 2024 TEC professionals; and students from the Legacy Groupe TEC GEN course. Guests travelled to come together for the evening from the USA, Germany, the UK, Ireland, Bulgaria, France, and several cities in Switzerland.
Some of the survey findings gave the audience food for thought. For instance, while 75% of the survey participants had an overall good experience during the Paris 2024 Games, 43% said that the experience was worse than in previous editions.
At the same time, we found that 59% work in this field because they love Sports and TEC and learnt the job by doing it rather than by training. That raised questions such as how to nurture the passion for this field or foster new generations of professionals through systematised training. These and many other issues were addressed during the Download Discussion through questions that provoked participants to reflect on actions they could take to use this knowledge in their own lives and work.
The main takeaway from the evening was that TEC is an important community for delivering major sports events and that the voices of this community need to be heard if we are to continue elevating the level of high-performance delivery teams.
